What people actually struggle with at work · distilled from real forum posts (Thai & English). Quotes are verbatim.
At a glance
The single loudest pain is bad bosses and broken management · by volume it dwarfs everything else, and the anguish in the posts is visceral. The highest-intensity pain is overload and burnout, which scores higher on pain than any other cluster even though it is less frequently named. The third dominant theme is the whole “people around me” cluster · toxic coworkers, office politics, unfair pay, and stuck careers · which together accounts for most of the everyday misery. Underneath all of it runs a quieter current of lost meaning and anxiety about AI reshaping work.

CLUSTER A
Bad bosses & broken management
The biggest, loudest cluster. People don't quit jobs, they quit bosses · and the stories here are about bosses who scold, hoard power, disappear, or were never equipped to lead in the first place.
Toxic / exploitative bosses
A manager who rules through anger, public humiliation, favoritism, or boundary-crossing · making daily work feel unsafe.
Scolded, sworn at, or “แซะ” (sniped at) in front of others, sometimes over nothing.
Contacted at midnight / on days off; no separation between work and life.
Favoritism and nepotism · the boss's pet can do no wrong.
Micromanagement and credit-stealing that drain motivation even when the work itself is liked.
The boss isn't always the problem · often it's the people beside you. Gossip, cliques, credit-grabbing, and “การเมืองในที่ทำงาน” (workplace politics) corrode trust and make people want to leave.
Difficult colleagues, gossip & political games
Coworkers who deflect blame, hoard influence, exclude others, or make the team a battlefield rather than a workplace.
Defense-minded peers who never admit fault and rewrite the SOP instead of fixing it.
Gossip, backstabbing, and cliques that isolate people.
Work dumped on the reliable one, who then takes the scolding too.
Politically savvy colleagues hoarding credit and control.
How do I protect myself from a politically savvy middle manager who's hoarding credit and control?

CLUSTER C
Overload, burnout & no work-life balance
The highest-intensity pain in the whole report. Work bleeding into nights, weekends, and sleep · until people break down, cry on calls, or quietly lose the spark.
Too much work, no boundaries, spiraling stress
Volume and after-hours demands that exceed what a person can sustain, with no recovery · manifesting as insomnia, panic, and tears.
Bosses assigning work at night with a “by tomorrow morning” deadline.
“วันหยุดไม่ได้หยุด” · no real days off; calls chasing work on weekends.
Intrusive thoughts and insomnia: can't switch the boss off in their head.
Manager-level burnout: drowning in responsibility with no one to hand it to.
Rules and processes that feel mechanical or punitive · PIPs that are really exit ramps, benefits weaponized against promotion, quiet constructive dismissal.
“A PIP always ends in a firing” · performance plans used as paperwork for termination.
Being slowly stripped of work and frozen out to force a resignation.
Using benefits or leave as a reason to deny advancement.
How blunt to be that PIPs always end in a firing? · “At my company a PIP always ends in a firing. This is common knowledge in HR and management.”
Even reaching the desk is painful · demoralizing job hunts, rude or opaque interviews, age barriers, and roles that turn out to be nothing like what was promised.
Hiring & interview pain
The grind and humiliation of trying to get hired · rejection after rejection, ghosting, ageism, and interviewers who are rude.
Repeated rejection that curdles into burnout · “what's the point?”
Age as a silent filter: older candidates pushed toward contract work.
Rude or disrespectful interviewers; referrals that backfire.
Failed yet another job interview… What's the point now? The burnout is so bad.

Meaning & the AI shift
Two quieter but growing currents: the creeping loss of purpose (“what's the point of any of this?”), and anxiety as AI starts replacing mid-skill work and even, some half-hope, replacing the boss.
Losing meaning / purpose at work
A existential flatness · work that no longer feels worth doing, and the question of who you are once the title is stripped away.
Repeated failure or futility collapsing into “what's the point now?”
Burnout reframed as “หมดไฟ” · a loss of fire, not just tiredness.
Identity anxiety: without the job title, who am I?
